The Advanced Photojournalism class is on the road to Hurricane Coffee in Sequim this summer. Sequim Gazette Sports Editor Michael Dashiell took time
to critique student work
from Marcus Como, Andrew Biasotti, Felice Thompson and Anthony
Richards. Michael has built an impressive record for himself and
Gazette readers by working hard to document the student athletes,
competitive spirit and community growth in Sequim. Even nursing a
broken wrist (volleyball injury), Michael can be seen photographing
collegiate sports and interviewing students and coaches at Peninsula
College. We're taking student work to Port Townsend, Sequim and P.A. to
bring the classroom to the newsroom and gain pro feedback from
photojournalists at The Leader, the Sequim Gazette and the Peninsula Daily News. Our
main summer event will be getting students to the Bellingham Visual
Journalism Conference BVJC July 17-18 at Western Washington University.
It is emerging as the premier event for photojournalism training and
world-class critiques at an unbelievable low cost. To learn more about
the BVJC, go to: http://www.wwu.edu/depts/journalism/visualjournalism/
The quality of the presenters this year is phenomenal. Three-time Pulitzer winner Michel du Cille, of The Washington Post,
and John Moore, senior photog for Getty Images who was recognized
recently for his courageous work documenting the assassination of
former Pakastani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, will both be present.
Local talent like Alan Berner, of The Seattle Times, will also be on hand at the BVJC.
