Research Rocks in MA

The Digital Library of Tufts is a wonderful resource for Murrow. With this year marking Edward R. Murrow's 100th anniversary, the collection is getting even better thanks to the knowledge, dedication and mental firepower of Susanne Belovari, archivist for Reference & Collections at the Tisch Library of Tufts. It is at: http://dl.tufts.edu/ and is well worth a visit for students of WWII, broadcast history, journalism, public diplomacy and international citizenship.
It's equally noteworthy to remark on the good work of Patricia Albright, librarian at Mount Holyoke College. This is home to Janet Brewster Murrow's archives. MHC is one of the most idyllic settings a student can imagine. For days I was in this incredible 7th floor aerie overlooking the green courtyard of Holyoke and reading a historic record that feels both personal and international. MHC is quite beautiful.
Think Potteresque. It's a miniature Gryffindor really. The campus is a strip of land with deep red stone buildings, with a beautiful string of lakes to the east and a small town nestled up against it on the northwest corner.
Patricia and Susanne are guides and guardians of a vital piece of history.

It is a privilege to come spend a few days (post Chicago, another story & another time) to read ...so many of his letters, witness family images, so much correspondence. It is amazing to hold pieces of history and witness the relationships, the networks and the intellectual development of the figure who changed history and our means of knowing it.
